Living in La Gomera

The areas as I see them, Luca, after years on the islands.

La Gomera is small, round and steep: deep barrancos running down from the Garajonay, a laurisilva forest that's a World Heritage site, terraced palm groves and villages clinging to the slopes. It's reached by ferry from southern Tenerife, which makes it a refuge within easy reach.

Valle Gran Rey in the west is the area most loved by people from northern Europe who come to live here; San Sebastián is the port and the capital. Homes are few, and the choice has to be made without rushing: here more than anywhere, it matters to know who you're buying from.

Numbers and municipalities come from public sources; the rest is my own experience. If an area catches your eye, message me and I'll tell you about it in person.

Frequently asked questions

Can I buy a home here without being a resident in Spain?

Yes. You can buy without being resident in Spain: you need a NIE (foreigner identification number), a Spanish bank account and a notary for the deed. In the buying guide you'll find the steps and the taxes, with official sources.

What happens if there's no listing on this island right now?

Our archive grows every week, partly thanks to our partner agencies on the islands. And if the right home isn't here today, we look for it for you, including homes that aren't in public listings, free for buyers: tell us what you're looking for with ‘Chat with Inmobilio’ in the ‘Property finder’ box at the end of the listings.

Can you view the property on my behalf?

Yes. If you are not on the island, someone from the agency or our local partner does the viewing, sends you extra photos and video, and gets back to you in English; then it's up to you to decide whether to come and see it in person.
