Living in Lanzarote

The areas as I see them, Luca, after years on the islands.

Lanzarote is the island of volcanoes and white architecture: low houses, green or blue window frames, vineyards grown in the ash of La Geria. César Manrique's touch is visible everywhere, and the Timanfaya landscape looks like nothing else in the archipelago.

Puerto del Carmen, Playa Blanca and Costa Teguise are the most sought-after residential areas, with beaches and amenities; Arrecife is the city; the north, with Haría and Famara, is wilder. The climate is dry and breezy, the island is small and quick to get around.

Numbers and municipalities come from public sources; the rest is my own experience. If an area catches your eye, message me and I'll tell you about it in person.

Frequently asked questions

Can I buy a home here without being a resident in Spain?

Yes. You can buy without being resident in Spain: you need a NIE (foreigner identification number), a Spanish bank account and a notary for the deed. In the buying guide you'll find the steps and the taxes, with official sources.

What happens if there's no listing on this island right now?

Our archive grows every week, partly thanks to our partner agencies on the islands. And if the right home isn't here today, we look for it for you, including homes that aren't in public listings, free for buyers: tell us what you're looking for with ‘Chat with Inmobilio’ in the ‘Property finder’ box at the end of the listings.

Can you view the property on my behalf?

Yes. If you are not on the island, someone from the agency or our local partner does the viewing, sends you extra photos and video, and gets back to you in English; then it's up to you to decide whether to come and see it in person.
